Dress Update

My attorney, Jeff, Esq., negotiated a hefty discount on the dress for me and it is now hanging in my closet, along with the extra material needed to add length.

Hopefully the seamstress will be able to work some magic.

I’m just relieved to be done with that shop. Even after agreeing on the discount, the manager was still suggesting that I was only upset about the dress because it’s my wedding and I’m just emotional.

Give me a break! It’s a huge purchase and they completely screwed it up! As Jeff said, I would feel the same way about it if it were a lawn mower.

Ok, maybe not quite… but seriously. It’s 6 inches too short. Don’t tell me I’m being emotional.

ANYWAY! I’m done with them now! Time to move on to the next wedding task. There’s certainly no shortage of things to do!

Just got off the phone with the bridal shop

I scheduled an appointment to go in with my attorney (ahem, Jeff) and get the dress on Monday. I’m all set to take it and the extra material to a seamstress who will do her best to turn a short girl dress into a tall girl dress.

Why couldn’t the dress have been made correctly? Boo.

Dressgate 2010

This dress thing is getting more frustrating my the minute. The bridal shop now says that that Maggie Sottero doesn’t make my dress with extra length because the material doesn’t come in a wider width.

WHY WOULD THEY SELL ME A DRESS THAT DOESN’T COME IN MY SIZE?!

Ohhhhhh, the deep breathing thing isn’t working so well any more!

Deep Breaths

I suppose that a big part of planning a wedding is dealing with things going wrong. Today I had my first major hiccup. I’m trying to just think of it as a right of passage or something. Trying.

We went to my first dress fitting today. The dress is gorgeous. Just as perfect as I remembered… but then I put it on and… waaaaaaaaaaay too short. Like, way, way, WAY too short.

I’m nearly 6 feet tall. When I tried on the dress originally it was just a smidge too short, so we ordered it with 3 inches of additional length.

Well, I don’t know how this happened or who screwed up, but the dress was made with 3 inches LESS length than comes standard. It is fully 6 inches too short. Downright silly looking! When the girl at the shop saw me it she gasped and said, “When is your wedding???” and I said, “Semtember 11th” and she went, “Hoooooooo…. okay…”

Not comforting!

The shop is contacting the manufacturer (who they claim is at fault… who knows) and they told me they probably wouldn’t hear back for 48 hours. Why that long? I do not know.

If we are not able to get the dress in time, we may be able to add length to the bottom with extra material… I don’t know.

It will all work out! Right?! I sure hope so.

On the plus side the dress itself fit flawlessly. It needs almost no adjustment at all. And I still love it.

I just don’t want a highwater wedding dress!

We got Jeff’s suit and my dress fitting is scheduled for Friday.

So at least we know what we’ll be wearing!

I’m working out the kinks with food, but I think we have a plan now.

Next up, my mom and I need to get together an design and order invites! I have a pretty clear idea of what I want, so it won’t be too tough.

Picked a Dress!

For those of you who I haven’t told already- I ordered my dress! I went with the expensive one.

Gulp!

My Grandma Patsy offered to contribute to the dress, and the truth is, without her I could not have afforded it. I’m so grateful to her! It was just head and shoulders above anything else I tried on. It’s totally perfect.

Next on the docket:

  • Find a caterer
  • Finalize guest list
  • Design/send save the dates

Oh, and we’re doing engagement photos sometime this weekend with our photographer, Lisa Teso! I’m really excited.

Dress Shopping

Today’s shopping trip left me totally confounded. I don’t know what to chose. Basically, it’s down to three dresses.

  1. A Maggie Sottero dress that was like… perfect. It was the only dress of all the zillion I’ve tried on that made my mom cry. It just really felt right. The problem? Twice my budget. UGH.
  2. A Casablanca dress that was totally not what I thought I was looking for, but turned out to be really gorgeous. Also more than I wanted to spend, but only about 1.5x the budget.
  3. A dress from David’s Bridal. I went there thinking I couldn’t possibly find anything I liked, but I actually really loved this one. Plus, it’s right about on budget.

So, do I totally go overboard and get the dress I LOVED… or do I get one of the dresses I merely really liked and be more reasonable?
